ABSTRACT
Herpes zoster is a viral infection caused by the reactivation of varicella zoster virus. The disease is frequently seen in the elderly. It ıs rare under 10 years of age and if this happens it is thought to be associated with immunsupression. In recent years studies showed that herpes zoster can be seen in otherwise healthy child. In the children herpes zoster usually affects servical region and it is more frequently associated with itch and burning sensation than pain sensation. Existence of underlying malignancy is important when deciding how to treat. In this report we wanted to share an 18 month old immuncompetent child who was diagnosed with herpes zoster clinically. We gave asiclovir treatment to the patient because of severe pain and discomfort. She recovered without any complication. We shared this case because herpes zoster rarely seen in a child at this age, and it can be seen without underlying immunsupression.
