ABSTRACT

Itching is a common symptom that can be localized or generalized, acute or chronic. Chronic pruritus called that prolonged 6 weeks. Notalgia paresthetica (NP) is frequent causes of chronic pruritus. It is often characterized by localized itching, pain, hyperesthesia, numbness and/or paresthesia in the unilateral medial or inferior scapular area. Inheritence, dermal innervation increase, viscerocutaneous reflex mechanisms, chemical neurotoxicity spinal nerve damage caused by trauma or impingement are the factors that responsible for etiology. Various treatment methods have been tried, but precise/definitive treatment option has not been reported. In this review NP which is related to both of dermatology and neurology differential diagnosis, diagnostic methods and treatment modalities were presented with current knowledge.
